AMAO

All school divisions in Virginia are expected to meet annual student achievement goals. These goals are referred to as Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAO). These goals reflect federal learning standards for nation-wide student achievement. The student achievement goals for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 years were altered due to changes brought about from the transition from the previous No Child Left Behind (NCLB) to the current Every Student  Succeeds Act.

The areas of student achievement receiving this state monitoring will remain:

  • student progress on the Access for ELs language proficiency test
  • students achieving a score of 4.4 on the composite  section of the Access for ELs 2.0
  • students achieving passing scores on the grade level SOLs in reading and math
  • students meeting the High School Graduation Rate Index

Student achievement is the most important measure of the success of any educational program.  Improvement in proficiency, success in the state assessment program, and increasing the number of students receiving a diploma remain the key professional focus.
