Applying for Early Learning Programs

The Early Learning Program application must be completed online. Click the following link to get started: Early Learning Online Application. You will be directed to the Smart2 Start website. When filling out the application, you will see a section called "location preferences." Please select that you are applying for Prek/Private Childcare. Then, in location preference number 1, select #57-Franklin County Prek.
A screening with you and your child will be conducted prior to acceptance.
We will begin screenings by appointments only. The PreK office will
contact you to set this up once an application has been submitted and
received.

The following documents are required when applying to PreK:
BIRTH CERTIFICATE
An original birth certificate is required for school entrance. A copy of a birth certificate cannot be accepted.
If you do not have your child's birth certificate, you can apply for one from the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Vital Records, follow this link:
Parents can also obtain a certified copy of a Virginia birth certificate at the DMV office located at 305 Tanyard Rd. in Rocky Mount.

PROOFS OF RESIDENCY
Two proofs of residency are required for school entrance.

PROOF OF INCOME
At the screening appointment, you will be asked to provide proof of income for all members of the household.
W-2 form, Income Tax Form 1040, or recent paystub are acceptable proofs.
SCHOOL ENTRANCE HEALTH FORM (Physical form)
This form is only valid for one year from the date of the physical.
Before your child can begin school, a physical must have been completed within the last year.
Up-to-date immunizations for children who are 4 years old must also be on file.
If you do not have a current physician, Tri-Area Community Health Center, a non profit organization located at Ferrum College is accepting new patients.
They also have a program for individuals that are uninsured. Please contact them at 540-365-4469 for additional information.
