The Virginia Retirement System provides retirement, life insurance and long-term disability coverage for full-time employees of Franklin County Public Schools.  All employees contribute a minimum  of 5% of their salary to VRS. Contributions for retirement, life insurance and long-term disability are also made by the School Board. 

Employees who were members of the Virginia Retirement System prior to July 1, 2010 are covered under Plan 1 provisions of the retirement system.  Employees who became members July 1, 2010 or later are covered under Plan 2 provisions of the retirement system.

Employees hired on or after January 1, 2014 who have no prior VRS service credit are covered under the VRS Hybrid Retirement Plan and have Short and Long Term Disability Insurance Coverage through Anthem.
