WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF THE S.E.A.C.?
The S.E.A.C. functions to help parents and members of the community to understand how special education provides appropriate services to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
to assist the Franklin County Public Schools in developing plans for improving performance of children with disabilities;
to participate in the development of priorities for meeting the identified needs of children with disabilities;
to review the policies and procedures for the provision of special education and related services prior to submission to Franklin County Public Schools and the Virginia Department of Education.
WHO MAY SERVE ON THE COMMITTEE?
The committee may be comprised of;
parents/guardians of students with disabilities
public/county human service agency representatives
community/civic organization representatives
business/industry representatives persons with disabilities
The Director of Special Programs and Services, the Instructional Administrator of Special Programs and Services and other staff members from the Department of Special Programs and Services serve as consultants to the committee.
WHO MAY ATTEND S.E.A.C. MEETINGS?
The S.E.A.C. welcomes anyone interested in special education. There is designated time for public comment during the meeting. This is an opportunity to share successful educational experiences and express general concerns regarding educational issues for students with disabilities. All meetings are open to the public.
HOW CAN THE S.E.A.C. HELP YOU?
It can help you understand how to work with the school division and how the Department of Special Programs and Services functions to provide appropriate services to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
